Does anyone have a starting problem with 4500 series? It starts 98% of the time but ever so often it won`t start. If I just wait for awhile it will start normally:cool:

:welcome:

Maybe with a little more info about the history, your previous experiences with the 4500, last fuel filter change, climate you are in, storage in or outside, etc. would help dredge up some answers to your problem. :)

I had a 2001 4500 bought in 2003.
The 4500 started acting as you describe shortly after I sold it and the buyer replaced the fuel injector pump. This could possibly be your problem.

Ok more info. I had no problem with it for about 4yrs but I always parked it inside, it never got to cold. I left it out once and it would not start, just cranked so I tried and tried so I finally just quit trying but I waited about an hour and walked out to try one more time and she poped right of (go figger). Ran fine for a long time then one day it did it again. So I waited awhile and popped right off again. It always did it when it was cold, but once it did it in the heat of the summer?? It don`t do it very much but it is kind of annoying when it does. It always starts sooner or later I just have to wait till it wants to.

...and the last fuel filter change was ??

At least I'd start with the filter and empty any water from the bowl. Then look at the fuel supply including the pump.

I used to have a 4200 that would do the same thing. It turned out it was the thermistor, a small solder-in diode on the back of the fuse block. It was about 5 bucks at the local dealer and took me about an hour or so to change. Fixed the problem. I don't know if your 4500 has the same systems as my 4200 but that could be your problem. Obviously rule out your other fuel delivery issues as well first but just a thought...

Did you use the pre-heater (intake heater) before you tried to start it? The process is to turn the key to the RUN position and push it in for 15-20 seconds, then crank the starter.

Y es the fuel filter has been changed before and after this happened so I don`t think that is the is the problem. I think the thermister could be the ticket, I will try that. It is cheap enough. Thanks for the replies keep them coming.
