Tractor
John Deere 2025R
I was looking for a new tractor to replace my loved 1533 that was sold a few years ago. I was hoping for a 1643, but started looking at the Kioti DS models, if I go the route of a new compact I would have to go with the Kioti DS4110HS or DS4510HS, the 1643 is just to much. But my dealer had to give me more to think about, by showing me 2 used tractors on the lot that are in my price range.

So why talk about these? Well I am going to try to make money this time by doing side jobs with what ever tractor I get and the below tractors sure could do the work I hope to find, they have the HP that I thought I wouldn't need, I was looking in the 40hp range.

The Tractor...

1st was a 2007 451 with 500hrs, 2 remotes, Shuttle trans, FEL, 60" bucket AND grapple, he wants $15,000 serviced and delivered. Its not to clean but its all there, the owner used it for tree clearing (business).

My thoughts, it just didn't tickle me, even if its $5,000 less WITH a grapple then the below tractor. Just some things that bothered me, it was used in a business, some wires hanging, bolts replaced in the shuttle lever that are to long, grill damaged, wire ties all over the place for the hydro lines, seats all ripped up (lol with a JD cover over it), stuff like that.

2nd was a 2007 573 repo with 1,100hrs 2 remotes, sunshade, everything else seem to be std, he wants $14,425 and he would add a New Bush Hog FEL with Skid-steer "66 bucket serviced and delivered for about $21,000. The tractors life was pulling a round baler, looks like it was taken care of better then the 451.

My thoughts, not one bad one, well if thinking its to big is a bad thought and well it is $5 grand more without the grapple.

What do you all think about the prices of these 2 tractors, a 451 and 573 (pics added as well)?

Get the 573. Some of the 400 series were plagued with quality problems. From what I gave heard, they were cured with the 500 series.

Thanks for the input, but I have to say I am kind of confused (easy to do to me). Not sure how the 500s made the 400s better (I guess I should say cured)? The reason I say this is because to me they are two different tractors, the 573 has to be 1 and 1/2 times bigger then the 451, how could the smaller one make the bigger one better (and when they were being made in the same years, I think).

I guess where I am going with all of this... Going with one seems to give me more then the other. I'm really on the side of the 573, but keep saying to myself, "I would get so much more going with the 451". That is another reason I am confused, why do I keep looking at a tractor that has over 2x the hours, needs a $5,000+ loader and doesn't have a grapple over the 451 for so close the same price. Is my spidey sense really that good over the 451 or am I being blinded by the size of the 573 (bigger is better).

Also I have to do a correction above, I said above he wanted $15,000 for the 573, the price serviced and to my door is $14,425.

The 500 series replaced the 400 series for the most part. Also , the 400 has a loader, the 500 does not, has it ever?? That on its own would sway me to the bigger one. Talk to the previous owner of the 400. 1100 hours is squat, nothing I would worry about, as long as maintenance was done.

Thanks for the info on the models. I guess I could try to talk to the old owner of the 451, not sure on the 573 old owner, I would think he wouldn't want to talk about a thing because of it being a repo.

No the 573 never had a loader. Are you saying you would rather have the 573 because of not having a loader, less wear and tear on the machine?

Yes, a loader tractor in the hands of the inexperienced, the careless, maintenance impaired, or idiots is a bad thing. I would take a tractor without a loader, over one with in a second!!

Does the 573 have a combining valve on it?? So, you can channel all the flow to either the loader???

Gotta thanks..

"Combining Valve"... I didn't look for one, but looking up the specs on the net, it says it dose have a combining valve.

What do you mean by "So, you can channel all the flow to either the loader???", Did you leave some words out or am I not understanding?

You can redirect all the flow from the 3 point to the loader, but that leaves the three point with nothing. I am not sure f it works in reverse, where you could redirect it to the three point. Yeah, a sloppy edit job.

If it was only pulling a baler, that is not too hard a strain on it, would be like buying a mixer tractor. I would buy one in a second.

Any warranty left on the 573??

I see... Not sure if it matters, but it also has to 2 sets of remotes on the back.

No, nothing left on warranty.

That deos matter, as they would of been used by the baler. But that is good, something you will not need to install later.

I have a 4wd MF471, which is the predecessor of the 573. It's been a great tractor, there were a couple of issues straightened out under warranty but since then it's been rock solid. The 573 is a whole different class of tractor than the 451, quite a bit bigger and more capable machine. My 471 has a loader, but it's 4wd which means a lot. Both of those machines are 2wd and I personally wouldn't put a loader on a 2wd tractor. There are lots of them running around but the lack of front wheel assist really limits their ability. From your description of the 451 it'd have to be a lot cheaper than that for me to buy it, it sounds like it's been beaten on pretty hard.

Thank you for the input Gary and again to you William.

Oh by the way William, the 573 for sure comes standard with the Combining Valve, the smaller models (533, 543 and 563) can have it for an option.

Lots of searching, but I found the 500 sales brochure pdf, so now I know what it has and doesn't for standard specs. I have to say, the LP models are just "cool" looking machines sitting that low in 4x4.

The 451 was was a good tractor. The larger 400 series had some hydraulic system design issues which was resolved near the end of production and the design change was incorporated into producution on the 500 series. 451 and 573 are different sized chassises - be sure to select the one that baest fits your needs.

Thanks for the info... Problem with the choice. Talked to the dealer yesterday to get a total price for the 573 (was ready to get the deal done) and he informed me after he told the bank he had a buyer (me) that the bank (AGCO) decided they were going to jack up the prices on all the repo equipment that they had gotten from this one person and the 573 went up another $800, so that kind of peed me off to be honest.

I know the dealer is being truthful on the info and not jacking the price up himself, because he knew I was going to get a "new" Bush hog 3545 loader and a Bush Hog SQ172 mower with the 573, even knowing that info, he said "It's up to you if you want the 573, but after the bank pulling that stunt I would pass". Sure it's possible he has another buyer, but I would wonder if that other buyer is going to add another $7,000 or so to the over all price like I was going to do with the loader and mower.

So at this point not sure what to do, that 451 isn't for me... I just can't put my finger on it. I don't know, looking at the 500hrs on the clock, I think I am looking at a 2000hr tractor. What I see on the outside is a beat up tractor, I just wonder what is going on with the inside, I mean even all the switches on the dash have lost their black color. I know this Florida, the Sun can kill anything, but to me, if you can't protect the tractor from the environment what else can't you do?

Dont know what you intend to use the tractor for but hydraulic flow was the biggest change between the 400 and 500 series, if you are going to do a lot of loader work find a 500. if you will be working in mud find a 500 with fwd, with shuttle shift
