FYI...

We got done doing some hay last week and I was putting every in the barn. I shut the door on the 4520 and a puff of dirt came from the back of the cab. I checked the filter - it was toast. It lasted 20 hours or so. Only 6 of that was raking hay. So, I will be keeping a stock of filters on hand. I am used to my 5525 with 4 filters on the side lasting a long time. I don't think that will be the case with the 4520. 1 filter and in the back - raking hay is probably the worse case scenario.

My 3530 cab air filter fills pretty quickly also when cutting dry tall grass. There must be a low pressure area in the part of the roof signature as if I look out the rear view mirrors I see lots of derbis fluttering in the air near the cabs filter inlet.

I have been blowing out the filter element very frequently but its probably time for a new one. ( I have 110 hrs on the machine)

ALso, found that the A/C condenser core fills very quickly with the same debris significanlty reducing the A/C systems ability to cool. So I blow it out very frequently too.

Yeah, I wish the radiator stacks pulled out on these units easily. My 5525 can to running warm while baling. Sometimes I have to clean it twice a day. I am not sure if all the 6000s pull out, but I know the 6415 I looked at had that feature.

I also blow mine out almost every other use. I will probably only replace it once it gets a hole in it. I have been thinking of adding a foam pre filter to catch the big stuff......

I knock the dirt out. The JD guys say only to knock it out because high pressure air could put holes in it that you can't see, etc. Sounds right, but oh well. I am not sure how I could engineer a foam filter for it. Let us know if you get that figured out.

I turn down the air pressure to about 30 psi and go at it. Sometimes I use my leaf blower if I already have it out blowing off the rest of the tractor. It has a much larger "hose" to blow out so the pressure is not so concentrated.

My thoughts on the foam would be to put it in the air intakes, not really over the current filter. I have not tried it, and I know that it could possibly get dirty enough to restrict airflow and freeze up the AC, so its on the back burner. I might take a closer look in the winter when we go through all the equipment...
