The smaller tractor can be handy sometimes and the larger tractor can be a requirement at times.

Yanmar vs. Powertech - they are both wonderful engines. Have you listened to them both side by side? You can drive the Yanmar without hearing protection. I don't like to drive my 4720 without some earmuffs (I store them on the ROPS).

What are you going to do with the tractor?

I have to say, I could have bought a smaller one 4120 vs. 4720 but I felt like I needed the extra power and it was not much more money.

I will say without a doubt the 4520 I currently have is more powerful and will do more, faster than the 4310 or 3720 I did have. The torque of the PowerTech engines can be felt and this tractor does not bog as easily as the Yanmar engines. That said the Yanmars are really nice, quiet and extremely durable. If I were using the tractor on soft ground or wanted to do finish mowing, the mid frame is the better choice, but for sheer power and pulling and heavy attachments, there is no comparison. I originally thought that the PowerTech torque difference was a gimmick, but no longer. Hands down the large frame is better for heavier work. As D. said, they do not cost that much more, so for the money I think they might be a better deal.

Are you sure the Powertechs are MADE IN USA. I thought they were from Mexico. I know most of John Deeres lineup of engines comes from Mexico.
