I've got a new 4520. The loader doesn't float... This has the fender mounted loader control that is connected to the valve body by cables.

When I dump the bucket there is a spring loaded over travel, but it's not in any other position, and it doesn't have the detent of a float.

I'll be asking the dealer but wanted to check here too to see if you think the valve is plumbed wrong, etc...

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

The float detent is in the boom down far forward position, not in the bucket dump.

I know that's where is SHOULD be, but it's not there. The boom down has no over travel or detent for float. Strangely the bucket dump has a spring-loaded over travel but no detent.

This makes me think something is assembled wrong either the cables, the porting on the loader valve, or both... when moving the joystick all the functions are in the correct locations/directions except there is no float on boom down.

Has anyone else seen this on a Branson or other cable operated loader valve? If so what was the correction?

Thanks.

Try moving the cables and hoses BOTH.
Just swap the bucket cable & hoses ... with boom cable & hoses. That should fix it.

I went to the dealer today to pick up some other items they had ordered for me. I looked at several tractors they had on the lot and all of them appeared to not have float on the loader boom. After asking if this was normal I was informed to push harder to get past the detent.

It does have a float function, but the detent is very strong. Much stronger than my old Kubota, or other tractors with the loader control lever on the valve. These cable operated valves have a very stiff detent. I got home and after leaning g on the stick harder than I thought should be needed it did go into float. After working it a couple dozen times it is loosening up some and now probably takes less than half the force it did the first time and is smoother.

Thanks again for the replies. Problem solved...

Interesting.

I have a BL10A loader (no cables) and the float detent is FAR TOO light.
If you are floating and hit any small bump or rock at all, the lever pops out of the float detent.
It's Very, very annoying. I'm just learning to live without it.

On my old Kubota the detent was adjustable in the valve. I'm not sure how as the dealer did it when I complained about the same problem you are having. Maybe others here can help out...
