Ballast 455 lawn tracor weights

my grandpa has a 455 and i was wondering do you need the weight bar/bracket for adding the suitcase weights on the rear or is there a slot there they sit on like most of them also ideas on wheel weights or rear suitcase weighs what do you guys prefer

Yep... you'll need to attach a rear bracket unless your grandpa already did. No preference in suit case or wheel weights. Enjoy

You can install suitcase weights on the front bar on a 455, but for the rear you need a bracket. Deere sells a frame mount bracket and a 3-point bracket, and also a frame mount weight box.

On my 455, I run wheel weights all the time, and add suitcase weights onto my homemade 3-point bracket as needed.

Both Deere weight bars (the frame mount and the 3 point version) hold 6 suitcase weights.

Wheel weights for 12" tractor wheels are fairly standard. The Deere cast iron ones come in 50 pound weights and 72 pound "starter" weights. Confusingly, you don't need the starter weights to get started - you can add 2 of the 50-pounders to each wheel, either directly on the wheel, or on top of a starter weight. Deere also makes a plastic-covered concrete weight. These are cheaper but not as durable.

I keep the starter weights on year 'round - I do have a set of the 50 pounders but rarely use them as they are a lot harder to get on and off than the suitcase weights. I also use front (cast iron) wheel weights, which helps with the steering in the snow. For routine snowblowing, I run with the starter weights and 4 suitcase weights on my homemade 3-point bracket, which weighs about 50 pounds by itself. I did once have to add 4 more suitcase weights to the rear bracket to clear about 10" of sleet.

How did you mount 2-bolt weights to the front wheels?
Simple as drilling 2 holes in the stock wheels and squaring up the holes?
What part number are those wheel weights?
