Do any of you know where I might find a used rear PTO for a 455? What does a used one usually go for? I'd like to, at some point, get a tiller for this 455. Do any of you know that a used one of these go for also? Actually I'm not real sure if what I am looking for is a rear PTO or a 3 point hitch.

Thanks in advance!

If you are going to get a tiller, I believe you need the PTO as well as the 3pt. Each are needed. Probably hard to find a used PTO as once they are on, they usually are not removed (i.e. are traded in or sold intact).

Check with your Deere dealer and see if they know of any. Also can check to see what the price is new.

You might consider some buying and selling, or trading, to get what you want in the end.

The PTO addition requires a rear cover plate to be removed, after draining the tranny, and a new plate with PTO installed. Keeping the hyd fluid clean, and making sure the gasket and cover don't leak are critical. The 3pt is much easier to install, and also might be much easier to find used.

coachgrd,
Having owned a JD425 and a JD445, my suggestion is that you do as I did and look into a larger tractor that is capable of doing what you want to do. I agonized over a 4100 or a 4200 and ended up with the 4200, never to look back. By the time you pick up a PTO and a 3pt hitch ( cat 0) you will have spent as much as moving to a larger tractor and still need to upgrade to work a reasonably sized tiller.

My local dealer had one used in a box when I bought a used 3 point last year. They typically strip off options & weights & sell them separately from trade ins. (except loader) Other points are valid about buying a bigger tractor if not committed. However, they are bulkier, wider turning radius & if you cut down the ROPS instead of low branches and roll the tractor... One dealer I talked to on a 2210 said he would cut the ROPS down if I signed a stupid memo...

My 455 does just fine for year around tasks & it drinks from the same fuel hose as the larger tractors. Don't know about a tiller. I use mine for mowing, trailer moving, dragging downed trees off the yard - turfs don't damage grass, harrow dragging, landscape rake (72"), mobile work bench 20X60" & newest implement a 42" 3 point box blade.

That kit is missing the PTO module (AM120840--$105.00) It will not work without it.

What is the module (AM120840) used for? Do you have a wiring diagram for the module. Where do I look for in on my 425 w/ a 540 rear PTO??
