I've replaced the belt 3 times in one season and am very frustrated. The tension spring often jumps off the pulley -- this just started last year (the mower is 3 years old). Frustrated and I've read many posts about similar issues with Cubs. Are they inferior in design? I've had much cheaper riding mowers that ran for many years never needing a new belt.

Any advice would be appreciated. I cannot keep pouring money into this machine -- if it is junk, I would rather replace it with a different make/model.

Thanks

photoman, Check with your dealer to see if there might be a recall on the mower. A guy at work bought a small zero turn mower about two years ago, or longer, and he kept replacing belts. He got fed up with his zero turn and talked to the dealer who looked up his model and sure enough there were problems with the design and a recall notice. He was never notified by anyone of the recall. Anyway they replaced certain poorly designed parts with the new parts and he never had a problem since, runs great and no issues. Not sure this is the case with you but this sounds exactly like the problem he had. See what the dealer said and I'll try to get the model number on his mower. Good luck!

I had a 1995 model Cub Cadet that would throw the belt, but after a couple of times, I got to looking found all it needed was a simple re-alignment of the pulleys. One was way out of alignment. But of course your problem may be entirely different.
