Okay I know what your all gonna say.. no way! way to big... but say I can get a 460 loader (no bucket) for a good price, and can do all the fab work to make it work.. are the cylinders gonna be too big??

If I could find a 440 loader I would'nt be considering this but I can buy the loader and a brand new Miller 212 mig for less than half the cost of a new 300cx

The biggest problem with this is idea,* lines are on wrong side of tractor,* have to cut 4500 mount tube and weld on to fab mount (no biggie),* will more than likely have to cut out the brace that attaches to the front of the tractor and either modify or completly refab.. and outside to outside width may be an issue on the post..

Even with the 460's capacity, the 870 probably doesn't have the hydraulic capacity (pressure or volume) to get you in too much trouble.
You're not going to do the lifting (weight or speed) you could if the loader was installed on a 4600 or 4700.
Definitely do some measuring first...I think the main problem is going to be the spacing between the masts. The 460's mounts (on the 870) may not be wide enough.
Now, I'm writing this from memory...been a while snce I sat on an 870 or even seen a larger Deere CUT. So do your homework first...you may find out your savings won't be too good.

More trouble than it's worth. It very seldonm works out to make something "fit" something it wasn't intended to.

Roy's comments about the hydraulics are the main concern.

IIRC, when I looked at upgrading the loader on my 970 to either the 430 or the 300CX; Deere includes a hydraulic adaptor which is basically a flow restrictor that allows the lower pressured and lower hydraulic output of the 870-970-990 to work effectively with the newer model loaders.

As well, the 870 is a smaller framed tractor than either the 970 or 990 tractors. So, the overall frame size of the 460 loader will likely have to be altered significantly in order to mount on the 870.

IMO - a whole bunch of time, materials and work! If your time is worth anything... you're gonna be $$ ahead to bite the bullet and buy the 300CX.

I guess I'll just leave it alone, I'm putting a backhoe on the back of my 870 and will just use weights instead of a loader to counter balance.. I finally found a loader for my 950 at the same time I found the 460 so I'll just get the right loader for my 950 instead..

Of course I will still need to rebuild the 950's engine :(
