Ok... I have a bit of a problem with my 460 loader. its on a jd 4710 and when you tilt with the bucket off the left cylinder is quite a bit slower than the other until the right is fully in/or out then it moves at normal speed.. Does anyone know how to get them to move at the same speed. heres what I've tried,

1. Took the lines off to see if there were any goobers restricting flow. no luck

2. switched the tilt lines with the lift lines. Same problem

3.changed hydrolic fluid, changed filter, side suction filter and cleaned the screen. No help

4. switched the left cylinder with the right cylinder. the problem still is on the left side.

If anyone has any other input or anything else i can try it would be much appreciated.

Hydraulics are a lot like me, they only work as hard as they have to.
Is there a reason you need them to match?
It probably just a matter of flow, are you testing them at idle?
If you rev it up it may closer match.

I would say its normal due to a tighter seal on one than the other. With them disconnected fluid flows first to cylinder of least resistance, then the other. If you had a double grapple with 2 cylinders, 1 valve, the first to clamp down on your load stops until the other meets resistance then they both tighten up.

It's normal...The cylinders are in parallel so the one with the least Resistance moves first: BUT-It is also very common to shear one or both of the 1/4" pins (#4 in the diagram below) that tie the two QA shoes(#10) together via the tie bar (#8).

thanks Kenny, you hit it right on....thats my whole problem, it shears the pins.. then the tie bar starts to wiggle its way out.. Is this a bad design by john deere or is there any way to stop shearing pins

One of two likely problems:
1) Most common is that one cylinder is weak and the internal seals are bypassing so the other cylinder is doing all the work. Rebuilding the cylinders is easy and the "kit" of parts is available from JD for about $30 I think. Do them both at the same time.

2) There is mechanical binding-like something is bent. Probably not your problem.

There are very few problems reported with this setup-I don't thinks it's a bad design at all.

I was thinking it was a problem with the cylinder but it was odd that when i moved the left cylinder to the right side and the right to the left, my problem stayed on the left side. Nothing is binding when the cylinders are disconnected the shoes move easily and dont seem to be bound up.. any other 460 loader owners out there that have this problem.

If the pins are not in place, the right cylinder will always move first since it is closer to the feed lines. This is the same setup used on MANY loaders form JD-even the newest ones.

i don't know its just strange that the pins get sheared every time. if its designed to let the cylinder closer to the feed lines move first then why do they put two pins in place on the bar so one gets sheared when they move seperatley
