Has anyone found a way (besides removing the air filter housing) an easy way to replace the engine oil filler plug on these machines? Mine apparantly vibrated loose (probably not screwed in tight enough from the dealer/factory) and fell out and was laying on top of the engine. When I tried to put it back in I would have had to be some kind of contortionist to be able to screw that thing back in. Does JD have some kind of extension that is available?

I looked up the owner's manual for a 4600 on the J.D. web site and it appears that your 4600 is set up just about the same as my 4400, so I think I'm on the same page. If you'll notice in the manual, the photos in the section pertaining to adding/changing engine oil all show the side panel removed. I've found that if the fel is still on, I can just lean it out to the side without actually removing it, let it rest against the fel arm and, with a long neck funnel, get oil into it and have plenty of room to remove/install the filler cap. Without the fel on, I would go ahead and remove the side shield as I wouldn't want the stress placed on the plastic tabs at the bottom of the shield. If you're trying to do it with the side shield still in place, you'd need someone a whole lot skinnier than me to get in there./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
