Im about to burst, I'm considering my first tractor purchase and only have until Friday to decide if I want to take advantage of the rebates JD is currently offering. I need a tractor to cut about 12-13 acres, spread some gravel and till a garden. All the dealers I've visited have said the 4610 is the right one for the job.

The best price Ive been quoted so far is $23,959 + tax for the following package:

* 4610 with 4wd, eHydro, R4 ind. tires, and dual mid SCVs
* 460 loader
* MX6 rotary cutter

Based on the other posts on this message board it seems like a fair deal, am I wrong?

Any feedback about the pricing and if anybody knows about the durability of the eHydro would be greatly appreciated.

That seems like a fair deal Scott. Is that price before or after the rebates? Hard to say on the ehydro as it is the first year it has been offered.

That is after rebates

The final price. Of the 3 dealers in my area, they were the best by almost $1200.

I got to test drive the eHydro and it was really nice. I just dont want it to be a nightmare a few years down the road. Since it is new, Ill just have to take a chance and rely on JDs good name.

thanks for the reply

Scott, if it is within your budget get them to add a 3rd SCV now. You will want one later, especially when you get a box blade.

3rd SCV?

roysallis,

Im new to all this, race cars is my thing, not tractors, but Im trying to learn. I will definitley want a box blade or scraper blade for the back in the future. Why would I need hydraulic control for either one? I thought they were just hooked to the 3 point and then raised or lowered for adjustment with the 3pt controls.

Im thinking I will go make the deal Thurs afternoon.

thanks,

Re: 3rd SCV?

The 3 point only raises and lowers the attachment. You will find that you also need to tilt/trim the attachment. This can be done manually with the upper link but if you change the upper link to hydrulic and use the 3rd SCV to control it it is a lot easier. Discuss it with your dealer. Who is you dealer?

Re: 3rd SCV?

Thanks for the suggestion. I made the deal today and was able to get the 3rd SCV too. They are supposed to have the tractor tomorrow. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

BTW, the dealer is Hood Tractor & RV in Decatur. They had the best price of all the dealers in my area.

Re: 3rd SCV?

I get a bit confused on the JD web site regarding this control valve options. For a nice powerful compact like the 4610, make sure you consider getting the 3 spool valve for the back. That will mean 6 connections on the back for 3 in and 3 out funtions. The first valve and 2 connections or 2 hydraulic hoses will attach to the top link cylinder, this is the most important function most of us have, I think its almost manditory. For box blade work, its the best way to go. The second will operate a tilt cylinder, replacing the screw jack or crank extension. Its very useful, but not quite as important as the top link for most uses. The third which is a must for me operates a variety of things, it should have quick disconnects. For me, I use it on the hydraulic activated rippers on my boxblade. I also use it to control a whole bunch of funtions on my powered landscape rake which has its own hydraulic solenoid allowing that third valve to operate 3 more separate functions. The JD 4610 would also be my choice if I was looking at the Deeres. Best Wishes with your new equipment, carry the loads low and make sure you have a nice heavy ballast on the rear for the loader. I use a +1000lb box blade and ballasted tires on the rear. Rat...

Scott,

Have you purchased your 4610 yet? If not and you are still interested, I think I can work up a price that will make the drive very much worth it. I am up in Middle TN visinity of Nashville. Hope I can earn your business!
