I already posted this question in the general forum. I thought, however, I should be backhoe spacific so I don't try and compare apples to oranges.
Here is the origional post. Hopefully someone has my exact backhoe..

Hello,
I have had my B7500 with FEL and Backhoe since July and l love it. Before that I never
even sat on a tractor let alone run a backhoe so this is all new to me and I cannot compare
it's operation to anything else.
Here's my question..
When I run the backhoe it seems I constantly have to "jog" the left joystick. What I mean
is everything will stop when digging unless I work the left stick. When I do I hear a clicking
sound and only then the bucket will continue. I think a valve is releasing but is this normal
or is there something wrong. I realize this machine is not huge and has limitations so when I
hit roots or large rocks I have to "work" them. Before I take it to the dealer and make a fool
of myself I'd like to know if you guys experience the same thing.
I hope I made sense with my explanation.
Thanks,
Terry

Hi again,

In addition to what I posted in the other forum...

Question: Does the need to jog the left joystick exist even if you are moving the backhoe in the air and not doing any real work with it?

All my movements appear to be independent. There will be some slowing of things if several movements are done at the same time. For example, swinging the boom is fast by itself, but swinging the boom, lowering the boom, and moving the stick all at the same time slows everything down considerably. This is understandabe, becaue the pump only pumps so much, and if the flow is split between several cilinders they will all move slower than any one of them would if it received all the pumps output.

But...there should be no need to jog one of the joy sticks to get a different function to work, or to get its own function to work.

All the functions on my hoe seem to work smoothly and independently. It is certainly possible to jam the hoe against something and get it to refuse to move. In my limited experience, if the hoe is up against something it cannot move, it will not move it regardless if you jog a control lever or not.

For me it would be totally frustrating if I had to constantly jog one of the control levers [joy sticks] to get the hoe to function. It is hard enough to keep things working smoothly as is.

The only thing I have noticed on my backhoe that seems a little strange is that there is occasionally a delay in the movement of the stick, relative to when I move the joystick. Not allways, but when it happens it might be as long as a second between moving the joystick and when the stick actually starts moving...

You should be able to move the bucket smothly in smooth arcs without any jerking at all if it is working properly and you get enough practice working and feathering the control valves.

If the controls make you think this is an impossible task, then there is probably something wrong with them.

Perhaps your dealer might have another backhoe at his shop that you could try to see if there is a difference. But from your description I would guess something is wrong with your backhoe.

Bill,
To answer your questions it moves smoothly without jogging in free air. However, under load I must do the jogging of the left control stick as soon as any load is involved. Do you have my particular backhoe? If not possibly it's just the way mine works. That is what I would like to know and the reason I reposted in this forum.
I will definitely take it to my dealer (Snell, Potsdam, NY). They have been great so far so if it's a problem they will fix it.
Thanks again Bill.

My backhoe is the BL4690A...

They must be fairly similar, as they share the same manual.

Let us know what the visit to the dealer brings!

Hope someone with the exact same backhoe responds. But I think ours as siblings should perform pretty much the same.

Hope you get this question resolved to your satisfaction!

Here is what I think you are saying. If so, it's normal:
The right stick controls the bucket curl and the dipper stick(or crowd). The left stick controls swing and boom. If you have the boom down, dipper and bucket extended and you are pulling on the right stick (crowd toward you) you generally have to pull on the left control stick to bring the boom up and allow the dipper to come toward you. This operation basically releases the tension of the dipper (trying to take a huge bite, which it really does not have the power to do)by raising the boom you allow the tension to decrease and the dipper can take the bite. Does that make any sense? The clicking sound may be the relief of the dipper closing as you allow it to regain hyd's by coming off relief, by relieving the amount of tension on the dipper when you "jog" the left boom up.
