Snow 47 snow blower auger/shaft replacement tips??

Suddenly (opps!) developed the need to replace the auger shaft on my 47 in snow blower. Looks like the easiest way to go about this is to remove the larger drive gear from the pinion shaft, remove the gear case mounting bracket, remove the two flanged housing auger shaft bearing carriers, then pull the entire assembly and put it on a work bench. Anyone out there replace either the shaft or an auger and have an easier way to do this? Thanks……..

yup sounds like what I just finished up doing this evening. Not too bad actually...shouldnt take you long.

side note-use the proper shear bolts. Previous owner of mine did not, I failed to check, result was a mangled impeller. I was able to beat it into shape, but it was a lesson learned.
