4700 question

I did a full service on my 4700 this evening. Oil, oil filter, both air filters, transmition filter, lube and fuel filter. After I was finished I started it up and let it run for a bit. I noticed a lot of blue grey looking smoke. The tractor has sat all winter with the exception of starting it a few times and letting it idle for a while. I took it out and put it on a 10 foot wheel disk this evening and it really smoked for a bit and then I noticed a lot of sparks coming from the exhaust and then the smoke cleared up and ran like always. The tractor never ran bad seemed to have plenty of power just some blue grey smoke. I am thinking maybe sitting and the idling made it carbon up a bit and pulling it and getting it good and warm blew all the carbon out. I ran it about an hour and the engine oil was as clear as it was when I dumped it in. What is your take on it? Anything I need to worry about? One last thing the oil had about 100 hours on it when I changed it and I always change at 100 hours or every spring which ever comes first. I use John Deere plus 50 15w40. Tractor has 2100 hours.

I'd guess that you had an accumulation of incompletely burned fuel in the exhaust system. Likely built up during this past winter when the tractor was ideling for short periods of time without really warming up.

Did you notice the end of the exhaust pipe? Look like it was wet at the end of the pipe? Wet sheen extending 2-3 inches up the side of the pipe?

The grey, white (blue) smoke at startup should disappear with some working hours. Bears watching, though... could be a sticky injector.

Thanks for the reply. I ran it all day today with no blue grey smoke. I am confident it is ok. (I hope anyway) I didn't notice any wetness around the pipe. Had plenty of power.
