Greetings. I have been reading a lot of post here over the last couple of weeks. Fantastic forum!
Anyway, I picked up a 4700 brand new back in 2000 with a 460 loader and various implements. It now has about 1000 hours on it and still runs like a top.
I abused the loader quite a bit early on by cleaning up 4 huge burn piles left from a loader clearing about 10 acres of mine. I also used this poor tractor/loader to clear/level a site with a lot of grade for my 48'x30' shed. The dealer came out and replaced the boom cylinders twice under warrany as the seals began to leak, causing the bucket to drop to the ground in less than a minute.
At this point, I need to replace the seals in both the boom and bucket cylinders. I can still use it, I just have to constantly pull the lever to keep the bucket from dropping to the ground. I have never replaced hydraulic cylinder seals before. Is that a pretty easy task? Do I need any special tools?
Ok, enough about the 460 loader. My real question is that for the last couple of years, the hydraulic pump makes a loud noise when raising an implement or raising tilting the bucket with the engine at idle or slightly above idle. Once rpms get to about 1500 or so, the noise goes away completely and I seem to have plenty of pressure and my oil level is where it should be. I did change the hyraulic oil once about 3 years ago along with the big spin on filter as well as the internal coarse one.
Any ideas what could be going on? Perhaps it is time to change hydraulic oil and filters again?
