I've got 7 hours on my new 4710. I recently was using it to drag a portable shelter. It was pretty muddy out so I engaged the 4WD. I was very disapointed when my back tires started diging into the ground and I didn't notice that the front tires we even turning. I expected to see the front tires working a little bit. Is it possible that the front wheels aren't engaging?? Anyone had similar experiences? I've got a call into my dealer as well.

There is something wrong! The front tires should of been turning.

I've used my 4710 in muddy situations as you have. When I engage the 4WD, I barely notice the MFWD engaging. It engages smoothly without any front forward jerking actions. The only reason I know it's working is because I've used the 4710 in muddy conditions with and without 4WD engaged.....and I notice the much improved traction I get from the front wheels when I've got that right fender 4WD switch depressed.

Of course, you may have a short in the electrical switch that engages MFWD or the switch itself may be defective. It may be prudent to have this checked by the dealer.

I would add to your description of engaging the front wheels that if it wasnt for the light on the switch being on I too can not tell its on except for the traction.

Larry.
When in 4wd and you notice the frt. wheels arent turning, look on the right console and check the little book emlblem and see if it is flashing. If it is open up the fuse access panel and on the bottom row of fuses there are two ten amp fuses next to each other, pull the ten amp fuse that is furthest to the right out and retest the 4wd. Try this and let us know.

Tried pulling fuse as suggested, but no change. The dealer is picking up the Tractor on Monday. The light flashing sequence is as follows: short, short, long, short.
Anyone know where one can buy some manuals that will describe these problems?

Short, short, long, short, is the fault code for the flywheel speed sensor, this will flash whenoutput current exceeds a certain value w/o detecting an engine speed. 4wd, load match, and cruise control will also be affected. Look under the fuel tank around the side of the frame and look for the sensor, I think it is on the right side you will see it is held in with one bolt only, follow the wires off of it to the connector and see if it is plugged in or loose. Otherwise the possibility of a short may be present.
