OK Gentlemen, I need your words of wisdom. I will soon pull the plug and place my order for a new JD4710. I checked out JD's pricing configurator. Their list price for base machine with EHydro is $25,739.

My local dealer will sell me this package for 12% below list. JMIII and RichZ, you know the dealer I speak of. I haven't even gotten yet to pricing out the attachments.

I recall a number of you saying a halfway decent deal is at least 20% off list. Cowboydoc -- you're real good at this. Is 20+% off something I should be realistically searching for or can it vary substantially depending on what the local markets dictate. I'm in Capital District, upstate New York.

John Miller III -- I know you've recommended I chat with folks at KC Canary and Knight. I will be doing that. What's your take? Can KC Canary beat 12%. (BTW John, I sent you private e-mail to your nycap.rr.com e-mail address with more specifics on my situation. Not sure you received it. Being unregistered, is this account still active? If not, how can I chat privately with you?)

Would appreciate any thoughts anyone has on pricing out this new JD model. Thanks.

Regards,
Bob Ancar

Bob...

I think with the series 10 line just coming into inventory... a number of dealer's will hang on to price just to get a feel of the market... {no matter who you go to}

Especially if floor planning is paying to keep the tractors on the lot for the first 90-120 days for "free"... then it starts costing the dealers interest from that point on...

The other problem... is all indications this year will be a down year for tractor sales... so in turn production will be less and dealer's will be unsure of the supply situation... {if they sell what they have cheap and can't get anymore... they hurt themselves...}

If you find a dealer with a number of 4700- 10 series in stock, you may find some better pricing... but right now it's the beginning of the selling season and nobody wants to give anything away... you can try to wait it out for 3-5 months... and for the best pricing in our area is late Fall/early Winter... no dealer wants anything sitting on the lot in the snow...

Give Mark a call @ K.C. Canary and Don a call @ Knights, give them your wish list and point blank you're buying for the best price... then roll the dice... let everyone know your talking to multiple dealers upfront... You also have the Clifton Park and Chatham John Deere dealer to call... everyone likes money... Who's gonna be the lucky one to get yours... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I really think with a cash deal you can get at least 20% off of list. I have always been able to do that. Usually I get that without even haggling. Now with financing I'm not sure what they do. With me they usually order what I want. Like the guy told me they like it that way as they don't have any money tied up in the inventory. They order it and by the time they get the bill I've already paid for it. With the farmers and such they usually wait 30-90 days or more before they get their money. I pay for it when I pick it up so they treat me pretty good. I've found the stuff they have in inventory is harder to buy cheaper unless it's something they want to get rid of. As far as supply I don't think JD will have a problem getting units out. My personal feeling is that most places around here you can get at least 20% off of list. I'm not sure about other places. But I do know that in a projected down year they are not going to turn away too many sales.

As far as availability, I've had 3 dealers price out a 4410 for me, with all the bells and whistles. The first dealer said he could get them, but every day we waited to order made the wait much longer to get one in. He made me feel like he was trying to force me to sign the papers that day.

The second dealer was much easier to get along with, and he said he could get one here in a few weeks. He also had the best price. But I'm afraid he could be wrong and the demand will be higher than he thinks.

The third dealer said he tried to order one last week and they wouldn't even give him any idea of ship date. He also had the highest price (by about $1400). He also had the most 4000 models sitting on the lot, so I think he's not very interested in selling me a new one. I'm not sure if he even tried to order one last week or was just blowing smoke. Either way, he's probably out of the running.

So I don't have a good feel for how available they will be or how negotiable the price will be. I kind of feel dealer #1 is right. The longer I wait to order, the longer the wait will be, as demand goes up, and as spring gets here.

Brad,

As a John Deere dealer here in Nebraska, the dealer who said the longer you wait, the longer the wait is going to be is absolutely true. I placed my first order for a 4x10 series and got it shipped from Augusta in 3 days. But I think that is not going to be the normal delivery time. As far as price goes, buy it from the dealer who makes you the most comfortable with your buying decision. The lowest price sometimes isn't the "best"price. Most dealers(like ourselves) are "dealing" on these tractors, because when we sell one, John Deere will build another one for us.

i just priced a 4710 with FEL..$24,326; the tractor has a reverser transmission or something like that, theres a lever on the dash that lets you switch from forward to reverse without changing gears or clutching the tractor.

Thanks Gentlemen. Keep your thoughts coming. I could buy now, cash on the barrel head or I can wait a few months if I think I'll get a better deal in May/June or so. Would like to have my machine though by end of summer for bush hogging and start of firewood season. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

John --

Where's the dealer located in Chatham? I've driven on Rt. 22 up and down many times and don't recall a dealer being there. -- Bob
