Just curious-any opinions out there on realistic longevity of the 4 cyl turbo Deere motor? I have 1300 hours on my 07. No issues, no oil consumption, just wondering what the typical life expectancy of this motor is.

With reasonable care, many thousands of hours.

I don't know that you can get that kind of data as easily as for your Ford or Audi. The actual motor designation may get you some information, but I don't know how widespread the use of that block & charger are. If they just slapped them in the 4x20's I'd be surprised if there's much to get. For sure larger blocks go well over 10,000 hours before needing rebuilding, and I don't know that the turbo is necessarily needing any attention by then. Probably a lot more data on the larger Deere, Scania, Volvo Pentas, etc used in commercial applications, but It'd be worth a search by engine # to see if they may be on gensets, pumps or something with more exposure.

That is hard to determine but considering you are averaging about 130 hours per year it would seem you could go another 20 years with about 4000 hours. Should last a lot longer than I expect to live.

Deere has used that power plant - 4024T - in a number of their earlier model skidsteers. No reference of use with smaller excavators. And, I'm not sure about gen-sets or irrigation pumps, etc.

But, that engine has been around for likely 20+ years.

IMHO - I'd probably hang onto that tractor/engine combo. It would be very interesting to see how the newer, smaller displacement large-frame compacts would "stack-up" against the 4024T machines!

Thx guys for responses. It had a little over 200 when I bought it 12-2011. So Ive put about 1100 on it in five years. Was not aware that the 4024T has been around that many years. And trust me, I plan taking care of this thing. every time I see that "regen" vent or whatever it is in the hood of the new 4000's I say "no thanks".

I'm familiar with typical hours/longevity on a bigger machine, but you never hear or see any info on anything in the compact class with many hours beyond say 2500-at least whenever I'm cruising on tractorhouse.com I don't seem to see any.

Couple of thoughts on the hours and machines for sale.. The earlier models '00 series and '10 series of large compacts were Yanmar powered.
For the most part they were (and still are) great tractors. iIRC - there were some issues with linkage/potentiometer on the Hydro trannies (mechanical-not eHydro) and a problem with digging, turf gouging on the front drive wheels in 4x4.

I do not recall any engine problems.

Deere came out with the 4024T engine with the '20 series. (Somebody here on TBN can give you a better timeframe on the year's.). Given the amount of use that most homeowner's and hobby farmers work their tractors, many of those machines are likely just coming into that 2,500 hr range. And of course, if you're not having any problems with the tractor and the resale is not all that great... Then the thinking is probably heck, just hang on to it!

So, there might be fewer tractor's listed..
