4720 fuel gauge not working

Okay, So I got in my 4720 today and the fuel gauge is not working...... also when I start it the screen says long8 then short d (what the heck does this mean) ??????

Is this a new tractor? If it is I would put it on a list of things for the dealer to fix.

no this is not new and it just started doing it

Well, I found the long short info in the manual, and that is not a problem and has nothing to do with the fuel gauge. The fuel gauge sometimes works and sometimes does not, mostly not. If anyone has had problems with one of these please let me know what fixed it.

I had a 2007 4320 (bought new) and the gauge was not accurate from new so the sending unit was replaced under warranty. The new sending unit seemed slightly better accuracy wise but not by much.

I now have a 2010 4320 (bought new) and the fuel gauge accuracy seemed fairly decent until it went on the blink. The sending unit was replaced and it works but not so accurate. For example, when the tank is full the gauge reads little over 3/4 full. When the "low fuel" indicator comes on the tank is really almost half full. I can live with this as long as it is consistently the same.

Thanks for the info sunnyside, I would not care but I am getting rid of the machine and need it to work. I talked to local dealer and he feels it is the sender as well and gave me advise on how to do the job. the part is $171.79 ugh

Seems this is not an uncommon problem. I own two John Deere, and both have had sending units replaced under warranty

My 4520 was doing same thing, just changed sender and works great now.

does anyone know the part # for the sending unit? for 4120 - 4720 john deere ?

Looks to be LVA17266
