Purchased a new 4720 w/cab,400cx loader today. Dealer wants to trade my 4610 w/rops,460 loader. Any thoughts on a value for the 4610 and loader? Has 280 hours on it. Pristine condition.

I tried to find some online Tractor Blue Book, but couldn't. I am looking into trading my 4720 for a cab version. I paid right at 30 k for mine back in September with TNT kit, electric diverter, loader, and 3rd SCV. If I can get the dealer to within a couple of thousand less, then I am trading. Do you mind telling me how much you gave for your 4720 w/cab? Does the 400CX really have more lifting power than the 400X?

Smitty,
4720 w/cab, 400cx, filled R4's, Telescoping links, Third scv, Diverter for fourth & fifth scv, Front fenders, Rear extensions, Rear lights, Cruise, I match, Horn, Stereo, Cig. plug, Ext. mirrors, Rear wiper , Front hyd. couplers on loader for 4 in 1, Delux hood gaurd, Hd bucket w/ bolt on edge:

I pretty much had em drag her through the kitchen twice when she was being built:

all for the low-low price of $37500.

The 400cx is 25-30% stronger then the 400x. It is built much heavier and has self leveling.

Check out tractorhouse.com for pricing!

What TNT kit do you have?

Gates, thanks for the info. What are you referring to by the fenders? Is that just a front and side extension? Any pictures? Would love one from inside the cab looking out past the steering wheel. How is the view directly behind the seat? Can you look back and see everything ok? What's the total weight with the cab? Do you have the larger R4 tires? Do you think the 400CX will handle a pallet of sod (2000+ lbs)? Do you have the vertical exhaust pipe?

As you can see I am full of questions? The dealer here does not have one on his yard. I would love to take one for a spin. I typically put between 300 - 400 hours a year on one and have just about had it with the intense heat and bitter dust here in the South during the summer months.

Smitty,

I have not taken delivery of the 4720 yet. But I have spent considerable time in them before purchasing. The fender extensions are a mystery right now. No one has ever had them. I have them on our 6410 and they work excellent. They keep the debris from flying up on the front glass. The view from inside the cab is superb. I can not say enough about the quality of the cab. Deere really did there homework, but for $6400 it should be 1st class. As far as those hot summers, if the air works half as good as it does in the 6410, puts frost on the glass, it will be a home run. The cab is made by Deere it is not after market. It is made in the same plant as the large cabs, and it shows. The corner posts were keep very small and outside of your view. It is a ton quiter than the Kubota cab and solid. The air ride seat, a real plus, speaks for itself.
It does have R4 tires. The vertical exhaust Iam still contemplating. I am waiting to see if it is like the larger tractors where it bolts to the cab post or if it sticks through the hood like a Backhoe.
The loader is a considerable improvement over the old style. It is much beefier and uses mostly cast parts.

Which TNT do you have on your 4720?

I have John Deere's TNT (cylinders and all). Yes, it leaks down over time, but nothing dramatic yet. I also have a TNT (JD) on my JD4310 and it leaks too. I even took it back a couple of times for the dealer to look at it. It doesn't take much to get it back level, so I didn't worry with it too much.

Let me know when you take delivery of your tractor. I am waiting on pricing from my dealer. If we can work out something, I am going to get the cab and trade my brand new 4720. Love the tractor, and I know I will love the cab. I am in the landscaping business and partial to JD tractors. The 4310 (3 years old) and the 4720 ( 3 months old) have done everything I have asked of them with no problems.

Gates, there was an earlier post of a 3720 with cab. It had some really nice pictures and also had the vertical exhaust. This exhaust stuck through the hood, not like the big tractors with the exhaust bolted to the cab. It looks good, but not for me. It wouldn't be long before one of my guys knocked it off.

If I had to choose, I would rather have someone hit my exhaust stack with a tree limb, than I would rather have someone hit my cab with a tree limb. If anything I would say the vertical exhaust makes you more aware of the height restrictions you have with a cab tractor. Believe me, it would be easy to forget that you are in a cab especially when you are surrounded by that much visibility..... More likely if you had hit the exhaust real hard, it just might fall off.. (it is a two peice design, you just pull the exterior portion of the pipe off when you want to lift the hood etc.... my reasons for vertical.... Co2... I've been poisoned by it before, and it isn't ever going to happen again..

I do not like the dust and dirt that the underside exhaust stirs up. I also have concerns with underside exhausts in hay barns. I wanted to see what type of vertical exhaust it would be. I wondered how the hood would work. You have cleared all of that up. I do not have a problem with the design. It is no different than a backhoe. I am going to add it to mine. I wonder how easy it will be to remove over the course of time?

I can't imagine it not always being easy to remove... it is just a pipe that fits on top of the other pipe that barely comes out of the hood.. the external pipe is notched, and slides over two exposed studs in the lower pipe... you can either have the exhausht blow forward...side to side or back on the cab, but nobody would do that.... It's great... I love it.... besides other than practical purposes it makes the tractor look like a tractor.
