Needing to change the oil in the hydro sump... There is some leaking around the axle hubs so it looks like someone put in something more like gear oil than hydro oil... Do I need to worry about the yellow metal bit, or am I safe to use a modern type of gear oil?? (think I'll keep with the heavier gear oil-it's worked this long)

thanks as always...

You need to check out the specific oil you want to buy. Some, but not all 80W-90 is yellow metal safe.

ditto what rick said.. and.. yes..that is a gear oil back there.

napa makes a 90wgl1 part number 65-205 for a 5g pail. as rick said.. some people sell a 80w90 gl 4/5 gear oil that is marked yellow metal safe... that's fine to use.

tsc sells an oil that is marked for ford trannies and hyds and diffy from 39-52 under the traveler brand in a black pail with a blue lable.
