Hey All, I got a BX24 a couple of months ago. I just called my dealer to see what a 48" Bush Hog box scraper would be. He quotes me $700. Now back when I was shopping, I got quoted $500 from another dealer (but 40 miles away). The dealer from which I made the purchase quoted me $600 at the same time period (this all happened in February).

Is my dealer quoting me high or have prices gone up? Any other alternative to the Bush Hog brand? I looked into Tractor Supply Co. back in Feb. and they have one for $400 but it weighs 100 lbs. less. I've got a gravel drive to maintain and a lot of leveling work to do on my back lot which is all rutted up for various reasons.

Thanks for any info/suggestions.

John

Sometimes dealers have to pass a lot of freight charges on to you and sometimes they don't. I asked one local dealer about the price of a Gearmore BB-54. He said about $800 if I wanted it now, and about $640 if was willing to wait for the next big order he put in to Gearmore, which only happened about every month or two. The cost difference was due to having to freight one item vs the cost of freight amortized over a whole truckload of items. Your $600 scraper may have already been on the lot at the time, but now has to be special ordered.

I wish KK was an option for me. I'd pick up a $400 scraper right away. However, I'd have to choose between 48" and 60", and what I really need is 54". For some reason KK sells scrapers that are sized in 6" increments starting at 42", but they skip 54".

I have the 4 foot KK "orange" box blade. I did manage to tear the square hole where the shanks go through the tubing about a quarter of an inch, but I was ripping through and reducing the height of my gravel drive. The caveat is that my drive was made from old asphalt from the county road out front. Most of it was the millings when they ground down the road, but mixed in when they dumped it was chucks of asphalt still intact that were as big as microwave ovens. The shanks did not let go when I hit these monsters and it did drag them to the top.

After this drive sat in the sun all summer and considering how hard I pushed this box blade, I am very happy with its performance - I don't know that you could abuse it much worse that what I did. I did throw some cinder blocks to help weigh it down for this project, but it works very nicely in dirt. I would not hesitate to purchase another one. I will try and post some pics of the reinforcement I did on it in the next couple of days.

Not sure where you live but I bought a six foot KK at Murdoch's in Montana at a great price last summer. They are really built strong mine ripped up rocks that you could not believe.

Get the one from TSC. Yes, it weighs 100 lbs. less. Your pulling it with a BX24, so thats a good thing. Thats 100lbs more dirt you can pull around in it without getting bogged down.

I bought a hinged Back KK Box Scraper last year and it works good for me. I think its around 100# heavier than the Regular BB.

Why is 60 " not an option? I say get it and you'll never regret the extra width unless it won't fit through a gate or something. I've pulled an 96" LandPride for 20 years plus with a Ford 2120 and I love the width. I've used narrow ones and all I can say is the wider ones do a better job.

I've considered it, but I think it is just too big for my B2620. 54" is what is recommended, and I have heavy clay soil. I'm guessing 60" will be fine most of the time, but it will often bog down. I wish I could play around with one first to see what works well.
