Hi all. I need to buy a bush hog this spring. The dealer and Kubota both recommend a 42" hog on the back for my 16.7 PTO Hp machine. I know I am much more likely to find a good used bush hog in the 48" size because it is so much more common. From what I have seen, if I go with a 42" it will have to be new. Have any of you guys had any luck with a 48" bush hog on a BX2230 or similar sized machine?? Thank you very much for any info.
I gave up on hoping for snow...time to think about grass and brush!!
We sell the Bush Hog SQ480 for use on the BX tractors because the way the lower mounting pins are mounted, it is real easy to turn them to the inside and make installation much easier. Hope this helps.

I have a Rhino SE4 (48") that works well on my BX2200. The lower pins on the Rhino can also be turned around and pointed inward as equipman indicated. You'll need counter weight on the front end (loaded installed, suitcase weights).
I put a 48" Woods BB48 behind a BX and would NOT recommend it to anyone. The mower was too heavy and threw the tractor out of balance. Now, Woods standard duty stuff tends to be as heavy as some other lines Med duty stuff (ie bush hog - which i also sell) so a light duty 48" might work.
I pull as 48" BushHog SQ48 behind my 21hp Kioti CK20 without any problems. You certainly have the power needed. Neil's post raises issues about weight which I cannot comment on as it is not an issue for my heavier tractor.
I use a 42" Bush hog behind my TC18. At times it seems to heavy for the terrain, and I have 160# of suitcase weights and the front wheels loaded.
You need to take into consideration what you will be mowing: hills, or flat ground.
I run the lighter duty Befco 48" on my BX2230. No problems with the HP or weight. Although without the FEL on I don't think I would want to go any heavier. I chop down a lot of things I can't drive over by backing into them. No problems with the BX being able to power it. This size was recommended by the dealer. I questioned this as the spec is 42". He said the BX2230 had no problems operating the 48" and I now agree with him.
This exact issue has been discussed numerous times in the past. The overwhelming consensus is that you should have no problem. If you search the archives, you can find scores of posts by people who run 48" brush hogs on a BX.
