Re: 48\" bushhog on a bx1800
Keep in mind that brush hogs (Bush Hog is a manufacturer while brush hog is a synonym for rough cutter/rotary cutter) come in light duty, medium duty, and heavy duty, regardless of size. I run a 40" Gearmore heavy duty brush hog on my
BX2200. The body is 42" wide, the same as the tractor, which makes maneuvering between trees easier. I can cut stands of saplings close to 2" thick without loss of rpm. Light duty models are primarily for tall grass and weeds, but not saplings. Heavy duty will take weeds and saplings. Medium duty is for weeds and very small saplings.
The
BX1800 has less hp than the
BX2200 and you are considering a rough cutter larger than I have. My guess is that you would do o.k. cutting only pasture grass and weeds. From my own experience, I would be hesitant to offer any guarantee that you could cut saplings with this combination.
Gearmore makes this 40" hd model along with a md 48" model. Quite a few manufacturers make 48" models. The smallest I know of are 36" models by Howse; one is ld and another is md.
Good luck with your choice.
