Last weekend I bought a United BB 448HD for $350 in Alabama that Solo talked about. I live in Georgia. I am a brand new tractor owner so this will be a very limited experience reply, but I did do some research about 48" Box Blades before my purchase. There is a huge amount of information here and I am absorbing as much as I can, while I am learning and enjoying.
United has a standard duty and a heavy-duty 4 footer. The SD was a bit cheaper at $315 but I think that basically heavier is better from what I have read. My MF1523 is the smallest compact Massey and only 23HP but the box is just 315# if I remember correctly and so far it seems to be a good fit and a quality built product, as well as being just a few inches wider than my widest footprint, a big plus for me.
MJPeterson said "generally a better BB will have captured pins, heavier weight, reinforcing around scarifier mounting points, and bracing to the rear blade from the draw bar." My United box has captured pins, not so heavy, a strong looking structure at the scarifier mounting points, and bracing to the rear blade. Close?
4 foot boxes were difficult for me to find locally, thus the drive to AL. I am happy so far with function and available in Red, as you can see.
