Has anybody ever run smaller blades on a larger bush hog? Specifically say 48 inch blades on a 60 inch bush hog.

I was looking for a 48 inch to run behind my Max28 but have come across a lot of 60's on craigslist. I figured I could try a 60, but if it bogged down put smaller blades on it.

Thoughts?

I would think the weight of the cutter is more important than the blade size. I'm not familiar with your tractor but I would match its 3 point hitch capacity to the implement weight. Don't see why blade size really matters.

My opinion.
If you get the bigger cutter you can always control how high you cut. You can also control how much grass you drive over and put under the mower deck. If I get into some really tall Johnson grass I will slow down and let the mower really cut it up good whereas if I run over it fast it will still cut it just bogs down some and does not cut as smooth.
I would say you could run 5 feet just as well as 4 depending on height you cut and ground speed.
My opinion.
