BTW, that is probably a standard seal available at any bearing supply place. If you don't have a Mahindra dealer handy, Mahinda buys those seals from another company, probably the same company that the bearing supply store buys it from. Not the end of the world to buy one eleswhere.

Okay, update. I did find the coupling, down in the bottom under the remaining oil. My 4 year old (daughter-a trooper) tried to get it out for me, but turns out the coupling is larger than the PTO shaft opening in the back of the tractor. So now I have 2 questions for you:

1) Ideas on how to get this part back on the end of my PTO shaft, when I can't reach out and replace it on the fixed internal post, and I can't hold it to put it on the shaft while I'm holding it?

2) Which end is which? The part has a recessed area about 1/2" wide on one end. Does that go toward the front, or toward the back? I looked at an online parts guide, but it's pretty fuzzy.

Use a small rod or something to get it back on there. (A piece of all-thread or re-bar??) Just make sure its clean...
And yes, the coupling only goes on there one way but I forgot which way it went. If I remember correctly, somebody has to work the PTO engage/dis-engage lever whille the other person puts the coupling back on. So yes, it takes two people.

I used to have an operators manual and parts manual for the 485 DI, but unfortunately, I let them go with the tractor when I sold it.

Hang in there! I know its aggravating because, like I said, I've been through the Exact same problem when I had my 485. After its all said and done you'll realize that it wasn't really that bad of a job. If I lived close to you, I'd be more than happy to come help.

My biggest issue so far has been not knowing which end goes on what. I didn't have the manuals I needed, so it was all pretty frustrating. Well, I picked them up, and now I know which end goes where-and it's the opposite of the way I was gonna try it. So, will now proceed with trying to get the thing back in place. Wish me luck!

UPDATE**

Okay, got my manuals, the bolts, washers, and gasket. Got my 4 year old daughter to reach her hand in and find the coupling, then pull it up as close to the PTO opening as she could. Won't bore you with the details, but let's just say I had to get inventive to get the coupling back into place when it's actually too large to pull out and the hole is too small for an adult hand to get through. So, then I realized that I was gonna have an issue with the pto shaft shifter. So I removed the bolts for that and loosened it, pulled it outta the way, and installed everything. Put it all together and it works!!
:D:D:D:D:D

So, now I really have to get back to problem #2 that I have another thread going on: the tractor won't move in any low gears. The PTO will engage in both low and high range, but the tractor won't move unless I'm in high range. Any help you have to offer, please send it that direction!!

Thanks to all who helped me with this issue. I have no idea how much this would have cost, but the nearest place gets $75 per hour and declined to even give me an estimate on putting it back in... Y'all have been great!
