Planning aprons on all sides of my band saw mill (25' of rail).I'm about 30 miles from the concrete plant.
I'm very concerned about the additioal cost of a pump unit. Any suggestions appreciated.

What exactly is your question?

If you're asking about cost, I had a 2000sqft 5in pad done about 1year ago, the pumper was $600, I'm sure there are different prices by region but just call around, we have probably 6 or more pumper companies in my area so a fair amount of competition but they stay busy.

Why do you need it pumped ? Don't you have drive around access to the mill/apron area ?

Only time I pump is if it's something a truck can't get to, like filling basement walls, up on a hill someplace, inside a building, etc.

We take it you can't get a concrete truck to just back up and pour it ? Looks like about 7 yds of concrete is needed. I have made my own chutes out of 16' galvanized metal if I can't get the truck close enough. Just make the concrete abit wetter so it can flow to either the form or a wheelbarrow.

If you are in NW Wisconsin how late in the year can you pour concrete EASILY and reliably ? It looks like your window for this year is getting small.

if you can't get the truck close enough then for that small amount I'd get a skid steer and let the truck pour into the bucket and run the skid to dump it......tractor would be to slow......just make sure to have a hose to wash the machine off before the concrete sets as there will be splatter......I've poured a whole floor with this method....also if you are that far from the plant make sure the driver does not stop for coffee on the way or that concrete will come out hot.......Jack

Good advice ! I just poured our pole barn floor and we live somewhat remote. The concrete plant was a 45 minute drive, so they put a retarder in each of the 3 trucks to keep it from warming up. I did use my FEL for 2 extra spots from the extra leftover. Yes...it splatters,so have a water hose nearby so you can keep it clean !

newbury,
You're right . I will run out of time because I still have to excavate the site on the the other side of the mill ( left side in photo ).Right side pretty much prepped Very poor soil ---> will need a layer of "heavies" and then some class 5. Then some rebar followed by the 5" of concrete. So I'm looking at a Spring pour when the Northern Wis weather moderates.
