I think this guy is from Australia or England. They call a brush hog a shredder over there.

A brush hog (shredder) doesn't have the blade speed of a finish mower. Also the blades on a shredder are thicker. A shredder pretty much tears the grass off instead of cutting it. In a few hours the grass cut by a shredder will stand back up and look uncut. The finish mower snips grass off crisp and clean. A crisper, cleaner cut that will stay that way for a few days.
I just put new blades on my rider and after cutting yesteday I noticed that some of the larger weeds stand back up just like your saying. I had to run over them twice to get a good cut. I'll pass on a brush hog for now I guess seeing how it will do the same thing my rider will.
