4wd engagement

Does anybody have a hard time getting their 2300/2310 out of 4wd. Mine goes in very easy, but to get it out sometimes I have to rock the tractor back and forth.

Between it being mechanical 4wd & the front tire lead ratio, that's normal. Try just backing up a little, or raising the front with the loader, it should come right out.

Both the 4WD, and the diff. lock can at times, require finesse, such as holding your tongue in just the right position, (usually slightly out of the mouth and, to the left or right), to be able to engage and or disengage them. This is normal.

Yep normal. Often I have to go forward or backward a a little or turn the wheel at the same time to get it to disengage. I'd rather have it engage easily and disengage the way it does than the other way around. As well, the rear diff lock sometimes takes a little moving around before it releases. Just have to release all the tension and binding in the drivetrain.

Try accelerating and then disengage just as you let off the throttle. Works real well on my Mahindra.

Thanks guys, It sure does make a person feel better knowing something is normal, especially when its your best toy, I mean tool in the shed.

Make sure that you are on gravel, dirt or lawn when shifting out of 4wd. Tractor has a front axle lead ratio. If you are on concrete or asphalt and the tractor is in 4wd the tires can't "slip" causing the the drive train to be lightly under load making it harder to shift out of 4wd.

Curious, it's not clear to me what you mean with "front axle lead ratio". What does that mean?

Glad someone asked the question about the engagement, mine is only a couple weeks old and does all the above. It also, on occasion, doesn't want to go from Neutral to LO gear....I just shift to High first (or a few times) and then nudge it into LO. I'm guessing this is the same deal.

I was told the axle ratio on the front axle is 1% faster on the 2300's than the rear axle ratio so that the front will turn better (in 4WD) than if they were both the same.

I think I've had mine in HI only once since I've owned it, most all the work I do is in LO.
