I too would guess a ground issue.
Not knowing the circumtances, but it astounds me that anyone could think a machine works one day, not the next and then consider mixed up wiring. Believe me, I have seen it. People switching wires and terminals around, thinking that may do the trick. Makes it much more fun for the person having to repair it in the end.
