The 4wd on my 2010D isn't engaging. When I put the front wheels up and spin one wheel the other turns in the opposite direction, but just barely and not at the same rate.

I read on another forum that where the shaft comes together, underneath the rubber boot there is a pin in there that may have broken. Does this sound like what it could be?

I took this picture of where the shaft meets the front diff. it looks to be unseated. Is that just the shaft cover?

Hard to tell just looking at the Pic. Thats just the Axel COVER. My guess looking at the offset you have a bad Axel Coupling and may have lost some of the the Balls in it. Again just a guess never the less your going to be going in it. Hopefully it's just the axel. Here's a pic. of it there's a complete Diagram also.

When you rotate one wheel the reason the other one doesn't rotate at the same speed is most likely because part of the rotation is going back through the drive shaft. "If" your 4 wheel drive was engaged and all the drive line in tact the wheels would rotate the same speed.

Yes, that is just the cover. Here is the parts drawing for your 2010. You are probably going to have to collapse the cover together and further investigate. Yanmar Tractor Parts: DRIVESHAFT AND PINION

I had this problem last year. The front coupling on mine slides and has a spring behind it to keep it seated securely. All I had to do was a good cleaning and lube and all was good. Just got dirty over the years and wouldn't move as it should.

Ok, based on the parts diagram from above which number is that?

#3 in the drawing, Carey attached a picture of it. You can click on the reference numbers and bring that part up to look at if it is a stocked part.
