Kubota M7040HDC
2012 Kubota M7040. It stays in 4x4 all times. The mechanism operates smoothly and all linkages are in place. The pin entering the transmission turn only a slight amount. But that looks normal cause of the stops in place. I have tried lifting front wheels of ground and driving backwards, but it still stays in 4WD. Any suggestions?

I would disconnect the linkage to the front wheels and see if you can disengage the fwd by hand by manipulating the final link that goes into the front axel. Also, is your locked dif disengaged?

Not sure how your tractor 4wd engages but my BIL’s tractor had the problem, an L model of some type, and it turned out to be a broken shift fork. My FIL used extreme force trying to force it into FWD when things weren’t aligned and snapped the fork. Another BIL and I tore it apart, found the broken parts and replaced. But it is open platform which made it about 2 hour job to get it torn down.
