Is it just me or is the gas filler lid a piece of junk. I think the design might be OK, but the materials is not cutting it. My gas filler was broken the day I got my tractor. It appears that it is about to fail again. My 4720 is still under warranty, but next year it won't be in warranty. Is it just me?

Come on, you did not put gas in your 4720 did you? How did it sound, and is it still running? Was it regular unleaded or high test?

The lid is junk! Those little springs do not last long and the fuel cap is too flimsey to go on the tank the first time. I ofter cross thread mine 3-4 times before getting it on correctly. The engineers took a long lunch hour on that design day!

I think if JD revamps any of it twenty series tractors they should all come with the fender fuel cap like on the Cab Tractors..... This is by far the most convenient fuel filler position. I love it! No more leaning over dirty/greasy loader arms to fill up my tractor.... I love this improvement on the Cab Tractor, and it should be done on all their open stations as well.... just my two cents...

IS it different on a 3X20? I have never put any stress on the cover or the filler cap so I guess I do not know what is wrong with them. They seem fine to me. I bought a big filler funnel from TSC that catches the drips. What am I missing in this post?

I don't have a 3x20 but the fuel cap door on my 4720 is a chunk of crap. It came broke the day I got it. I don't put any pressure on it either, I am very careful filling it up. I have an overhead diesel tank at my place, so I just put the nozzle in and fill - no 5 gal jugs slipped and breaking it, etc. The pins rattle out and then the spring falls off the pin.

I am taking my 4720 in for another item (plumbing for my grapple bucket), I will have them fit the filler lid again.

Is anybody on here from JD? I love my 4720, but the filler lid is junk.

I agree on the cab tractor fill. It is very easy on my 5525 cab - ncie location, no filler door, and the cap/tank threads are higher quality.
