Are 4x4 Mules pretty good in mud? Comparable to an ATV?
I have gotten stuck a few times in my 2wd truck recently at the farm and it is getting old. While my tractor with ag tires will get stuck occasionally if I turn on 4WD and it pulls right out of the mud.

The problem with any UTV is that you can’t lean and distribute your weight like you can with an ATV when things get sticky. However, a 4WD UTV will go places you’d never think of taking a 2WD truck.

a good aggressive mud tire is critical in a utv's performance in the mud. the stock tires on a mule are not very good in the mud.

Not as good as a 4x4 4-wheeler, but better than a 4x4 tractor, and WAY better than a 2wd truck.
put a winch on it and you will be able to climb trees if you want! LOL

My Mule 610 goes pretty well in 2WD, much better than a 2WD truck. It seems to have a rear weight bias, kinda like an old VW Beetle. In 4WD it is even better, especially in mud or deep snow. The front differential is a limited slip. Unlike many ATV's the Mule has an open differential in the rear, but you're able to lock the differential with the pull of a lever. It'll go through most places my ATV's will only slower. Where it won't is because of ground clearance or width.

Definately get a mule. It will take you places that no other vehicle can. They're sure footed, easy on feed....sorry, I couldn't resist.

With the correct tires and height they are very good in the mud.I owned a 2002 mule 3010 4X4 that was a excellent machine.coobie

My main problem is the dirt road I drive in on. Attached is a picture of the road from the summer. When it rains much now it gets very soft to a depth of almost a foot and the truck just sinks in.
This road is owned by my neighbor so I can't improve it. My tractor goes right over it in 4WD no matter how sloppy. I have been pondering a Mule for general chores anyway and if it would make this problem go away.......

Warhammer, I don't believe you will have any problem, even when your road turns to mud. The Mule has much more floatation with their 10 psi tires than any pick-up. I've taken mine through some pretty soft mud but I don't have a picture of it. This photo is where my trail crosses into the stream. From here I headed left up through the stream for 200' then climbed out on the other side where it continues up the hill. Although the stream bottom is mostly rocky, the banks are slimy mud, and in this case more slippery with a light snow to boot.
