Any reason why I shouldn 't use synthetic oil in the engine ( Briggs & Stratton ) ? Manual says nithing about it .

Is it new? If so, you could use synthetics. If older, you might need an oil containing zinc compounds. Amsoil sells a synthetic with a zinc compound which I used in my forty year ols B&S with good results. Older engines need zinc compounds to lubricate valve stems, etc. Diesel oils typically contain zinc compounds.

Not more than 7 years old if that much . Where would you draw the line on old ?

I switched all my small engines including gen to synthetic. About two years ago no problems to date
