I want to clean and plant top of property next to road. lots of sticks and more rocks in red clay. What would be best to work soil with to get started?

Welcome to TBN :D! With the information you have provided I would suggest a disk harrow, but the debris could be a problem. You might need to address the debris issue with a landscape rake or a box blade first. You will probably get a lot of different opinions as all of us will recommend the attachments we have (or want ). Please provide the membership with more information or pictures :). We love to spend everyone else's money . Jay

Can you arrange to burn any of it off. Much easier to see debris and obstacles. We couldn't burn off 6 acres of that type of field, so hired dozer to scrape it off without moving much soil.

landscape rake or Yard Tool (which I just got and I'm happy with how it works for finishing work).

Yard Tool

Got it to take bumps out... but I admit that I need more seat time with it.

You might be able to just rent these, at least the rake. How much area/land are we talking about??

This used to be a farm that was stopped anything in 1962. it's red hard clay with a LOT of softball and bigger rocks. I have a tiller, a rake ,and a boxblade .
Don't want to kill my tiller and willing to get more stuff if I have to but don't want to waste $$. The area is only 3 to 4 acres and might do 4 or 5 ac. on back of prop.

Do you want to plant grass or a crop? Pasture or lawn? I've been picking rocks for the last few weeks and picked up an easy 8 cubic yards out of a 1/2 acre area and it wasn't very rocky. Preparing it for lawn.

Is the area bumpy and crumby or just rocky?

If it was me, I would use the rippers of your BB to plow the soil and then pick rocks until it is reasonably easy to negotiate with the tractor. Then drag something over it to smooth it down. Pick the big rocks again. Drag again. Repeat until sufficiently smooth. Thinking only of future mowing.

Where did the sticks come from?

You might want to consider renting implements. I rented a landscape rake once to do a field I mow. I'd have no use for it otherwise..

What HP is your tractor? That will make a difference on what implements can be used.:D
