I went to the Tractor Supply store today and bought one of those nice yellow 5-gallon fuel cans. Got a few other odds and ends in the hardware line also.

Then I went over to WalMart so the wife could shop. I went to the RV/Auto section and got anti-freeze for the RV and noticed they also have the 5-gallon yellow fuel cans. Exactly the same, but $6 CHEAPER!!!!!

Now the object of this post is to warn others that there is a $6 savings available buy getting your 5-gallon yellow fuel cans from WalMart - not Tractor Supply.

The problem I experience using 5 gal yellow plastic cans is they allow too much light to enter and green slim starts to grow. I only use metal cans.

I bought several items at a TSC a few months back and among the items was a 5 gallon oil drain pan. the kind with the spout for easy pouring. Then I went to Wal Mart and spotted the exact pan for $6.00 or $7.00 cheaper. I bought the pan at Wal Mart and drove right back to TSC to return that pan. The woman knew I had just bought it and when I told why I was returning it she said she had nothing to do with prices. Since that time I only buy at TSC what I am pretty sure I can't get cheaper somewhere else.

I keep the can in a dark shed, so I have no problems with light.

Me too. The mega stores have put countless mom&pops out of business. They also put tremendous pressure on the makers of these products. I bet Walmart pays the maker of the Yellow fuel cans $6 less per container than TSC. And if the maker doesn't already manufacture these things in China, they are considering the move, in part due to the demands of Mega-Mart.

And someday soon when Walmart is the only store standing....

Someday when Wal-Mart is the only store standing, they will up their prices and other stores will open up again and sell for cheaper. That's the way it has always worked and as long as this is a free country it always will.

For all you know the same manufacturer is making the cans sold in both Wal-Mart and TSC. He probably sold to WM at a significantly lower price than he sold to TSC. Why? Because WM ordered 1 million and TSC ordered 1 thousand. This allows WM to sell cheaper. They make up for the lower profit margin by selling in volume, the same as the manufacturer did, by selling to WM in volume. It's simple economics.

I personally don't feel sorry for the small retailer. The fact that WM can come into a community and under sell the little guys is really the free market economy in the USA doing what is should be doing. It's the American way.

You can choose to pay more for the same product which gives you less to spend on other things. I would rather spend less for the exact same product and maybe buy something else.

Anyone know of a place online that carries the yellow diesel metal can? I can't find them local.

Thanks

I drive a red tractor in a red state and believe in conservative principles, but I am fearful of what WalMart is doing to this country. I hope someday some New England liberal will start the ball rolling on breaking this company up. A complete monopoly is not the American way.
