Is there anything tricky about doing the 50 hour?
just change engine and transmission oil and filters,
checking the fuel filter, greasing zerks, and checking bolts for proper torque.
Is there really anything else they do at the shop that I couldn't do or that is tricky??? Thanks

I did my own 50 hr service on a 1533 and all went well. Its a great way to get familiarized with your new tractor!

The only thing that took a while to find were the two zerks located under the rubber matt on the operator platform.

Were yours a pain to grease also? I greased them, but like to have never got the hose off the clutch side after I greased it. There's not a lot of room under there.

Yes, they were. I could not get my greese guns tip to get around the Zerk so I decided to replace the original zerk with on that had an angle on it and here is how it went: One hour getting the original one off, one hour trying to get the new on (and failing) and two hours getting the original one back on..don't try this aggivating exercise at home:rolleyes:

My final solution was to grind the access hole slightly larger, which worked. I could have avoided the hole thing by finding one of those "specialty" tips for my greese gun. Besides those two zerks, the 50 Hour service went smooth. :D

Well as long as it did not take 50 hours to do the 50 hour service, you did well.

Thanks,

Will

Be careful changing the fuel filter...I have had a problem ever since. Looses power and puffs of white with a faint fuel smell. I have tried to bleed, cracked the injectors, but I am wondering if fuel is not getting to the filter in a timely manner...beats me but I am very aggravated.

I've seen a Massey do similar things because the upper gasket for the fuel filter was installed incorrectly. If your tractor has the canister type filter with a gasket on top and bottom there is a good chance that is the problem. The tractor I looked at just had a filter put on it and the upper gasket was sitting inside the lip of the filter partially blocking off fuel. The gasket actually sits on the very top of the filter.
