I have a XR3140H coming up on 50 hr and the manual says to grease front axle nipple "the appropriate amount". Curious what the appropriate amount is :)

:confused3: Until it starts to come out somewhere else?

(Honestly, just give it two or three 'pumps' and then move on to the next one)

Yeah it’s not very clear in the manual. I have the same tractor pretty much and I grease it every time I grease it the same as rest of the grease fittings. I figure a little extra is better than not enough.

I'd pump it 3-4 times and you should hear or see old grease being pushed out. That is usually my cue to stop.

There are mystery lube points. The blade spindles on my Woods PRD 7200 RFM for example. For some reason I came up with twenty pumps on my pneumatic grease gun and then later on twenty pumps on my Lincoln Powerluber. Woods says to lube the spindles every 8 hours but I lube about every 24-32 hours. This PRD 7200 now is now 13 years old and has about 1200 hours on it. Original spindles and original belt.

One thing I always do when greasing that front axle pivot is to suspend the axle by lifting it off the ground with your loader or with a jack to the frame if no loader . This based on the fact grease always takes the path of least resistance by suspending the axle your releaving the load on the area it is needed and you’re grease will go there.

^^^yes, me too. Same with old trucks/tractors with king pins.

If I have the time to grease consider me lucky. Certainly don't have the time suspend things in the air to grease them.

My LS dealer specifically warned me about “ over greasing “ the axle pivot. He said a lot of owners over pressurize and blow the seal in the axle. He said
“ just a couple of pumps “ is more than enough if you do it each time you grease the rest. You will not see any grease oozing out like other zerks / pivots. I am just relaying what I was told...

I usually give 3 or 4 pumps or stop earlier if it comes out. Jus make sure your gun is pumping grease.
