I hit the 50 hour mark and went to the Dealer to get the supplies. YIPES. By the time I got he 12 gallons of Super UDT, the front Axel fluid and filters, I was out about $350.

If you plan on doing this at home, make sure you have plenty of oil pans for all the oil. It just keeps on coming.

The drain plugs for the front axle are real close to the tires. I cut the top off a gallon milk jug and put the big end around the axle to protect the tire and mouth of the jug works like a funnel to the oil pan. A must. Otherwise you will have oil all over.

Also - Make sure you have a flexible funnel to get the Super UDT back in.

I did need a #10 Allen(Hex Head) wrench to remove one of the drain plugs on the transmission. In the manual it shows as having a bolt head.

Not too bad - I did it in about 3 hours - mostly waiting for the oil to drain.

Did you use UDT in the front axle? I believe that is what Kubota installs on a new machine. Contrary to what others have mentioned, I get the oil pretty hot prior to any oil changes. It helps get things moving and I figure the best chance of removing any debris inside. This is especially true wih the front axle.

$350 Yikes! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Almost makes we want to slow down on the hours - then again, where would the fun be in that! Glad to hear it's not that tough of a job. Three hours is ok with me. Hopefully it will be cooler once I have 50 on the tractor. Right now it's over 100 in the shade! Anything else us new L3130 owners should be aware of?

Sure, you don't have to use Super UDT, UDT is also an alternative. It's drawback is its cold weather characteristic, it just takes longer to get to a working consistency in the extra cold climates as compared to Super UDT. Even the front axle could use UDT instead of Super, after all, they do allow 90W gear oil as an alternative to UDT. My climate is very mild, I could easily substitute UDT for Super UDT. While I had a little bit of frost this year, even the dogs water bowls never got any ice in them. I think I will still use Super if not for the fact that I rarely wait very long for my tractor to warm up.

It doesn't appear that will be a concern in Yoakum, Texas! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Any day with a temp below freezing will make it into the record books here.

The last of the snow just melted out of my woods.....expect the first frost next week! Heck, it will probably snow and I'll hook up the snowblower next month! Up here you got to use super udt or you can waste many hours waiting for the fluid temp to get up to where it should be.

On second thought, I'm going with simple plain jane UDT for my 50 hour initial massive oil drain. I bought 3, 5 gallon buckets with the 3 oil filters today. The Kubota brand engine filter is $6.00, I told everyone it was $8.00. After talking to the owner, he also said that UDT in our climate is really the only thing they use as well unless a customer is demanding Super UDT. He mentioned that for those in climates with under 32 degree weather in the winter, to use Super. We are in the 40's so what the heck. Next hydraulic oil change is in 400 hours, if UDT is a problem, I should have 400 hours on this thing in a few days or so. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have some Super left from my L48 and compared it to the UDT, it's definitely different. The Super is thinner and doing the "just a pinch" finger test results in: Super- finger spred is about 1/8 inch before the film breaks, with UDT its about 1/4" , remember, this is not a scientific test, results may vary. The aroma of Super is more pleasant as well. Rat... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

What's the price difference on the Super UDT and the regular UDT?

Winter? What's that? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

RaT:

Maybe you should UDT in your e-4? All kidding aside, The "Japanese" made oil filter is the expensive one at $8.00, the American made filter is the $6.00 one. Same with my 5030. I use UDT except in the front axle in the summer. Because I usually hay in 4wd, I worry about the shock load on the front gearing so I use 85-140 GL5 Hypoid oil in the front. When winter rolls around, I go back to UDT. I keep my tractor in a heated shop in the winter so I too, don't use the Super UDT.
