50 Hour Service Question

   / 50 Hour Service Question #11
I am going by what the manual says to do at 50 hours.
But what about my question about retacting the backhoe cylinders to get all the fluid out of the cylinders.

It is not a concern, just change the fluid and do not worry about the cylinders. It will be fine.

The cylinders are always full of oil unless you drained them by either pulling the hoses or disassembling the ram cylinder itself. Whether retracted or extended, the cylinders are filled with oil. In their retracted position, there is a little less volume simply because the hydraulic ram itself displaces some of the oil. There are probably a few gallons of hydraulic oil in the cylinders, hoses, areas that simply do not drain etc.

On the other hand you could understand that its not very important and know the hydraulic filter is there has you covered.
