after changing the hydraulic filter, i inspected the "run-off" before re-adding it. i had a LOT of suspended particulates in the oil. is this normal for everyone, or did i just get some debris into the bucket somehow when changing it? i thought i cleaned up and was careful enough not to get dirt in the clean bucket.

needless to say, i did not re-use it.

Yuck.

You made the right call. I would not consider reinstalling the 50 hour oil no matter what, but that oil for sure! I have always bought cars, lawnmowers, garden tractors, ATVs and whatnot and always did a very short first service interval with total fluid changes. It's an OCD thing, get the differential crud, engine crud, transmission crud and any other crud I can get to.... out. I know, normal humans don't do this and they drive cars and stuff forever with no issues. But I'm telling you, it makes me sleep better knowing that I did a full lube swap right up on the front side.

The color is odd, the Super UDT2 in my Kubota came out nearly as clear as drinking water?

That is Not a good look. 50 hour oil should have almost no color or particulates.

You call it run-off, could these particles have come from the tractor frame? Oil picked it up while running into your bucket? Or, oil pouring out of the filter from the dirty side of the filter element? Very odd, typically you would see metal shavings or tiny metal particles. Have you tried putting a magnet to the bottom of the bucket to see if it is a ferrous material?

If this is your first 50 hour service, that debris is certainly normal. I've seen a number of 50hr oil changes look far worse than that. Lots of things go into manufacturing, and what you are seeing is some of it. You are properly flushed now, and ready to get to work with new oil.

when you change the hydro filter, you loose about 2.5 quarts as you take the old one off & put the new one on. so at your 50 hour filter changes you will have "run-off".

the filter and frame were wiped down before the change and it's pretty clean still. i still don't think it was from outside debris.

and nope didn't do the magnet test. but i will in a few weeks when i drain the rest of the oil out.

Back when I bought my CK30hst in 2005, Kioti used to list changing the hydro oil and filters at 50 hours. True, the hydro oil hasn't broken down at all but there was a good bit of metal dust and metal shavings in mine. I guess they don't clean the parts well prior to assembly and some is just wear in of parts. I think now and for a few years back, Kioti lists just changing the filters. The filters do a good job at filtering the oil so probably not a problem but why make those new filters get dirty fast with the still dirty oil. If I bought a new one, I'd be changing the oil at 50 hours along with the filters but that is another discussion that has been posted if you do a search. I did my second hydro oil change at around 400-450 hours and is was very clean when drained.

I agree with Vic here. I'll also add that when equipment is new, there are a number of particles and small bits that gather on the bottom of the case that does not get picked up by the pump and circulated, being too heavy or whatever reason. Its good to get that stuff out early on, should it be accidentally shaken up and circulated in a slug of debris.

I don't mean to overplay the "dangers" here, as some folks make due just fine without the 50hr change. But I would recommend doing so. This isn't something just for tractors, this is a common standard for industrial equipment not being powered by a ringline HPU system. you'll see in many manuals of hydraulic winches, purifier gearboxes, reduction gearboxes, anything with a closed loop system of gears and pumps that require oil, like our tractors.

.

You mean GALLONS. 2.5 gallons of hydraulic fluid drain out of the filter mount...unless you rush to get the new filter on....then may you need to measure cause it will vary.
