I have been reseaarching a new tractor for use in haying operations and really like the looks of the 5030. My concern is the relatively light weight of these tractors compared to the weight of the baler and wagons of hay.

Is anyone using a 5020 or 5030 for haying operations? If so what is your impression.
Any idea what your fuel usage is gal/hr at pto speed?
What size baler are you pulling?
Would you buy a higher HP machine?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I am interested in this post too. Bought a U5030 with the idea of operating hay equipment when I can afford to buy it... The tractor was bought with the idea it has the capabilities to operate most of the small balers in the JD or NH line with 50hp at the PTO, so I would interested too, in what others have to say...

I use a 2008 Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD, gear tranny 8F/2R, power steering) with the ML250 FEL (6 ft bucket, 2950 lb lift to 10.5 ft height) to do haying on 6 of my 10 acres. The tractor weighs about 6500 lb with FEL and loaded rear tires.

The baler is an MF124 (2-twine, small bales) rated at 34 hp pto (min per the operator manual) although people have operated it with smaller tractors in the 25 hp pto range. The baler weighs about 3000 lb.

Don't need more hp for work on my small hayfield.

Don't have any fuel useage info.

Good luck

In response to your question, I used to bale hay with a 2900 kubota and a new holland 310 baler with hydraulics and had no problems. currently i am using a 5040 kubota and just love the machine, I have added balers and am now using a jd. 336 along with the new holland. I also pick up the bales with a newholland 1002 wagon and really don't feel the wagon behind me when it is full {56 bales}. I cut my hay with a kuhn gmd700 hd disk mower 3pt hitch @ 9' width, and have no problems at all. in response to the fuel, I have no idea about gallons per hour, but raking and baling in the same day, i cannot use a full tank of fuel. so if the tractor you are looking at is near the power of the kubota then I am sure you will have no problem at all. Good luck

I use a 2004, 4800 lb., LongAgribusiness 530 front wheel assist for haying. PTO hp about 47. This is my 7th season running this tractor. The rear tires are loaded. This tractor was built by LG-LS. It's a close relative to yours. Running a NH 310 baler with 16 foot hay rack loaded with about 120 bales. My bales weigh about 40 lbs. each. When the wagon is full, you can feel the load behind you. The tractor is acceptable for using in a hay operation. Plenty of hp. Would I prefer more weight on the tractor? Yes. The only question is that I can feel the power train, in the seat, with every stroke of the plunger. With modern engineering, I wonder how long it hold up? I also use it on a NH 479 haybine. Runs that with little effort. The haybine does boss the tractor a little, weight wise, in rougher going. It uses about 1-3/4 gallon of fuel/ hour, for both functions, which is acceptable for that hp tractor.
