I wouldn't own a tractor with a loader with out the powerreverser transmission. Our 1986 Ford 555B has one, as well as our John Deere 5320 never really had an issue with the transmission. Had an issue with the park paw on the 5320 but they changed the design after they stopped producing the 5320.
Our 5320 is abused with what we pull with it too! 12ft disks it struggles at full cut, but works okay as well as a New Holland 570 baler with 9x18 thrower wagon. Baler is too big for the tractor, never mind add the additional weight of the wagon full of hay up hill!
I find sometimes that even the 12 speed doesn't have enough gearing. raking and tedding usually run b4 if rough or c1, wish there was a speed between c1 and c2. Baling we usually run B-3, or B-4 depending crop conditions but i would like to go faster but not in the C1 range.

I think the 12x12 is the winner in terms of speed selection and having LH shuttle, at least on the 5E. The 12x12 tractors are computerized which is a minus for me. Current tractor mows @ 5.2MPH and bales square or round @ 3.8 MPH, so as long as I have close to those speeds I should be fine since unless I end up with a 5065 or larger, power is the same.

Yup, I'm with ya there. You'll find that LH shuttle is a good thing, too.
Baling speed is not as difficult with the 9x3 (depending on baler) but raking and tedding in changing field situations is less favorable with the 9x3 - IMO.

And, as you stated traveling with loads is better with the 12x12.

If you move a little higher on the Hp food-chain will you be looking at different balers/mower in the near future as well?

I'll likely stay with same size mower (5 disc mower) and baler (4x4) since they were bought with the current CIH being adequate to run them and knowing a larger tractor might in the future. Both run on 42 PTO HP now, and only reason considering adding a tractor is to get FWA and second loader and be able to run every machine with more than one tractor in the event of breakdown, I can't run the round baler or disc mower with the current MF unless I want to spring for a remote kit, and even then, no loader on it.

I am looking at a 5055E with 16.9-28 tires and 9x3 Transmission

I had it for a SHORT test drive around the dealer's lot.

Speed chart seems ok, but looks like C reverse is useless for anything, B reverse seemed fast, A reverse slow (snowblower?)

B range looks like only "field speeds" C range highway only, A range looked nice and slow.

Will I totally hate the 9x3 trans and mega lever PTO? I like simplicity and am nervous about power shuttle and computers of the 12x12.

Tractor would be for haying and I would put a 553 loader on it in the future (round bales, manure and snow removal)

I've run right hand reverse loaders and didn't care for them that much, but I am used to LH reverse.

Shane w muttons. I have a 5065 I'm looking to move with those options. Pm me for a quote

Thanks, I'll probably stick with something closer to home when I buy.
