The mechanic came out and looked at my tractor today. He pressure tested the system with tractor not running and later with the tractor running. He found another slight hose leak below the waterpump. This makes the 3rd and forth time the coolant hoses have been tightned on this tractor. Hopefully this time stops my leaks. I had him look at my air intake hoses that where swelled on the ends and he said that was a common proplem with them and said if they replace them they will most likely do it again once tightned up. He went through and tightned all of them to make sure they are tight and even pulled a little on them for good measure. He looked at my dash fogging up issue. He said they will order me a new dash since it is all one piece. Also he looked at my fuel gauge issue where the gauge comes up slow. He ordered me a fuel sending unit and is going to replace it once I have the fuel down to less than a quarter of the tank. I am very happy with my dealer service. He said the 5000 series are known for leaking coolant hoses and air intake hoses. We figure its cheap made hoses on them. I think John Deere should have charged an extra $50.00 bucks per tractor and put better hoses on these tractors. Over all I love my tractor just not the silly issues. Also during his testing he found no internal issues with the engine

I wonder how rough the castings are where the hose clamps.
One of my hoses was leaking. I tightened the clamp and it stopped, but it wasn't really that loose to begin with. If the surface isn't smooth it's hard to get a good seal.

It's possible but I honestly thinks its the hoses. They seem not to fit as tight.

Had the same problem on my 5065E. The techie came out and did a pressure test. One of the hoses was leaking so he replaced the clamp. Everything seems to be ok so far... *holds thumbs*

I don't know if your out of warranty or not but I would just ad the coolant pellets. my dad added some to is ram van when it sprang a leak and since then we haven't seen a drop

I decided to resurrect this thread and see if the coolant leaks have been resolved.

Fieldman12 felt that the hoses were at fault.

When I first looked at my tractor on the dealers lot, the hoses were leaking. The dealer tightened the clamps, and that seemed to take care of the leak. A few months later I found it necessary to tighten the clamps again, and they weren't really that loose. As a matter of fact they were pretty tight.

This winter I noticed that the level in the recovery tank was down, so I called my dealer.

They came and picked up the tractor, replaced the hoses, clamps, antifreeze, and delivered the machine at no charge.

This may sound funny, but the new hoses look like they are better quality.

I'm thinking that Fieldman12 was correct about the hoses. It's been over a month, and there's no sign of a leak.

Has anyone else needed to replace hoses on a new machine?

Bill

I have a 5065e that has 63 hrs, took delivery last June. Read about leaks but never had any. In a pre-emptive measure I tightened them all anyway but none were very loose. Did that at about 10 hrs. I keep a check on them but have no coolant tank indications of leaks or have ever seen any leaks at joints. Maybe my hoses were good quality? Have not paid that much attention to air intake hoses. Inspected them per manual but nothing loose and no swelling. I have seen some condensation on inside of instrument panel but always vanishes when warm. Is it creating more problems to replace it? I figure I will make a decision before 2 yr Warranty up

I had another leak on mine over the winter. It seems to be fine now I hope but I have not ran it much since winter. I did look at a 5065E at the farm show with cab and I noticed it had allot better quality hoses and different clamps.

I had my instrument panel replaced because of condensation. It still does it with the new one. Also this is a one piece outfit so you will have to record your hours somewhere.

I have a 5045E with 315 hours on it in 21 months. I had to tighten clamps on radiator hoses at about 30 hours and checked them again at 50 hrs. No trouble sense and no problem with air intake hose but will check it at next start up.
