If I have 65 hrs at 1 year should I change oil? If so should I fill with JD break-in oil?

Thanks

I would change it, and keep break-in oil in it for the amount of hours of the first oil change interval specified in the manual. Is that 200 hours on the 5065?
I think it is pretty important on a wet sleeved engine..at least according to JD.

personally I would wait till between 150 to 200 hours but only to what interval John Deere recommends to change it at.

But you are right on about it being a year. A few things here, you could just change the oil filter or wait till 100 hours. Time that oil sits in an engine is also bad. Old oil can create sludge and hold moisture.

The Manual says change at least annually. It also says change at 100 hours AND if under light load refill with break- in oil for 1st 2 or 3 oil changes. I read a JD publication on oil break-in and if done improperly can shorten engine life. I am a newbie to tractors but an Engineer. Makes sense to me to change filter and get wear products out of filter. My tractor is used for bush hogging and plowing and some loader work. I have an 80 timber/hunting farm. I would not classify this usage as "hard". I think I will change oil at 75 hours and refill with JD break-in oil and filter. Then I think at 150 hrs I will transition to non break-in oil suggested in manual. Sounds like there is no downside to going longer on break-in oil.

Sounds like the perfect choice! Change at 75 hours. With break in oil. Some people argue that engine oil changes are costly but engine break in is very important. I know it is high in zinc and may sure stink from the exhaust.

During engine break in very small metal particles can be added into the engine oil. It's good to change the oil to remove things like this.

High zinc is not always good for all engines but in Diesel engines and older gas engines it's usually good.
