My 2012 5065e will not start. Start attempts have resembled battery failure but battery tested good. Finally today tractor barely bumped over on first key turn. Then started 2nd attempt. After running 20 minutes I turned off to move brush by hand. When turned key nothing happened. Hooked up jumper cables from truck and got a fairly loud rattling noise coming from starter. Sounds like bendix gear won't engage flywheel. Not a grinding or screeching noise but a rapid rattling noise. My dealer says there is a product improvement program (pip) on my serial number even past 2 year warranty that covers starter and labor. My tractor is only 30 feet from a paved road in country. I can't move it. Order part tomorrow and hopefully get fixed Friday or Monday. Anyone had similar symptoms for 50XXe? Any explanation on 8 month old apparent battery failure?

I had the starter on my 2013 5075 replaced at less than 100 hrs under warrenty. It did not fail, actually worked pretty good. But they where at my place doing another warrenty thing and replaced it. No issues with battery at this point.

That must have been part of the pip program and a pre-emptive repair. I assume the starter work is not that invasive? Did they have to remove the loader or instrument panel? I assume not. They plan on doing mine in the field vs shop

I have no loader on this tractor and they didn't remove the dash as best as I could tell. Looked like a simple repair, 2-3 bolts and 2-3 wires.

If anyone has replaced a starter on a 50XXe tractor and it is simple, please explain. I am fairly good at mech repairs but I don't have much experience on Diesel engines or tractors. Is it as simple as removing the 2 red (lugged) wires from the cap on the starter solenoid. And then removing the black wire coming from key switch. Then use a ratchet extension to remove 2 bolts? Does the fuel filter need to come off for wrench access? Can you do it with loader installed and lowered?
