Definitely installing filter kit external to the tank asap. This after having run E-ZOIL Bio-Blast treated fuel since 3-4-20. But to be fair I did not clean the filter and tank prior to starting the use of the treatment. The tractor is topped off with fuel after each use and sits for extended periods under a covered hay barn. Tractor runs fine with the filter cleaned and reinstalled.

Some of the 5000 series over the years came with an inline check valve in the fuel line that's not in the part diagrams that can get clogged as well. Sounds like that's not the issue with the OP, but may help others

Back in March 2020, I was at the local John Deere dealer and asked about the issue with bio growth in the fuel tanks causing filter fouling and fuel delivery problems. The Service Manager pulled up pics on his phone of the black gunk on the fuel supply inline pencil filter as fuel exits the tank. He told me that the ultra low sulfur diesel fuel that we use today has the problem with bio growth due to the reduced sulfur content. That fact coupled with the plastic fuel tank which doesn’t help with condensation due to temp swings creates the conditions that enable the bio growth to occur.

The Service Manager told me how to clean the affected tank if bio growth has already gotten established.

  • Drain tank of fuel
  • Disconnect and remove tank from tractor
  • Remove discharge pencil filter if one is present. On mine it is just inboard of the outlet 90degree fitting where the fuel hose connects and goes to the fuel filter. His pic was of a stainless pencil filter, mine is plastic with some kind of white mesh filter material.
  • Plug the hole so the tank will hold liquid
  • He stated to use two gallons of Clorox laundry bleach. Put both gallons in the plastic fuel tank. Cap and thoroughly shake to make sure interior surfaces get wet with the Clorox
  • Allow tank to remain sealed and set over night 8+ hrs
  • Next day empty Clorox and wash out tank. He stated they pressure wash the interior of the tank as possible. Drain tank of water after all Clorox is rinsed out. My speculation is that warm water would work better, but he didn’t state other than regular tap water
  • Dry tank as possible
  • Put 2 gallons of fresh diesel fuel in the tank and thoroughly shake as you did with the Clorox.
  • Drain the fuel tank
  • Re-install fuel tank on the tractor
  • Re-install cleaned pencil filter if your tractor has this feature
  • Connect fuel line
  • Probably a good idea to also replace the main fuel filter before reintroducing fuel to the system
  • Add Fuel Bio Treatment before adding fuel at shock dose and fill tank with fresh diesel fuel.
  • Prime and bleed air from the fuel filter and water bowl
  • After the filter is primed attempt to start the tractor

The Service Manager also stated to do a regular preventative maintenance dose to the fuel tank any time you fuel the tractor.

Also, keeping the tank as full as possible at all times will help prevent condensation inside the tank especially during colder weather temperature swings.

5075E Fuel Supply Issue

Pics of external fuel filter mod to my 2018 JD5075E after removing the OEM internal pencil size filter.
Used a Baldwin filter base and Cat Fuel Filter both purchased off Amazon, hose end fittings from local ParkerStore Hydraulic Hose & Fitting Service Store. Replaced OEM fuel hose with Gates hose. Custom fab on filter enclosure, top two bolts to hold enclosure utilized existing tank mounts (changed to longer ss bolts w/ss spacers), bottom two bolts - drilled holes in tank mount (ss bolts w/ss spacers). So far no more issues with starving fuel flow.
